Biomet Hip Implant Lawsuit Filed

Bradley/Grombacher LLP • Feb 01, 2018

A Biomet hip implant lawsuit has recently been filed by a patient who received the implant and allegedly suffered severe injuries. The number of hip implant injury lawsuits has been on the rise in recent years following claims from patients about severe side effects and dangers that they say they were never warned about.

Biomet Hip Implant Lawsuit Argues Manufacturers Are Responsible

The Biomet hip implant lawsuit comes about as a result of claims from injured patients who say the defendants knew about the risks of the product but failed to warn the public and the medical community.

According to the Biomet hip implant lawsuit, the defendants were aware of the problems for five years with the M2A-Magnum Hip Replacement System. Those claims say that the manufacturers of the product knew that their device would fail years before it was supposed to but instead of warning patients left them paying the price in the form of severe injuries.

The lawsuit goes on to argue that the device makers knew that the socket and ball bearings that are a primary component of the Biomet hip implant would break down and cause metal debris to travel throughout the patient’s body over a long period of time. Surrounding tissue and bone can be negatively affected by these issues.

The Biomet hip implant lawsuit says that the manufacturers have forced the patients to unnecessarily endure pain and suffering. Further, many of those who received the hip implant had to undergo painful revision surgery, facing additional medical risks and expenses.

Some of the symptoms reported by those who came forward to file the Biomet hip implant lawsuit include lack of mobility, inflammation, pain and suffering, death to bone and surrounding tissue, and surgery required to replace those devices. Revision surgery carries the risk of infection and other complications.

Many of the patients who are participating in the lawsuit against the implant manufacturers allege that the makers knew about the problems but went to great lengths to falsely minimize those dangers.

This led to many patients, according to adverse event reports and lawsuits, having to report back to their doctors about sudden unexplained pain. When revision surgery was presented as an option, the patients were then forced to consider the pros and cons of going that route.

The costs of dealing with these unexpected side effects can be a lot to bear, according to the lawsuit, both from the perspective of the medical costs and missed time at work in addition to the psychological toll.
