Prilosec Proton Pump Inhibitor Lawsuit Filed by CA Woman

Bradley/Grombacher, LLP • Jan 23, 2018

Economic damages and personal injuries are made in a new Prilosec proton pump inhibitor lawsuit. According to the Prilosec proton pump inhibitor lawsuit, the defendants, or the makers of the Prilosec medication are responsible for wrongful and negligent conduct in connection with the manufacture, design, packaging, testing, distribution, and sale of the PPI drug.

Proton Pump Inhibitor Lawsuit Blames Manufacturer for Injuries

A California resident came forward to file a Prilosec proton pump inhibitor lawsuit after suffering serious injuries while taking the medication that she alleges they believed to be safe for consumer use.

Prilosec, among other proton pump inhibitors, is prescribed to many different people who are suffering from a broad range of medical conditions. When many of the affected consumers began using the medication as directed, however, they began to suffer a number of different side effects and injuries. When dangerous drugs are alleged on behalf of consumers, this could lead to a catastrophic personal injury lawsuit.

The Prilosec proton pump inhibitor lawsuit states that the Procter & Gamble company, serving on behalf of AstraZeneca LP, submitted an FDA new drug application in January of 2000 for the delayed-release tablets of Prilosec in the dosage of 50mg.

In October 2003, that medication became available over-the-counter for patient and consumer use. Proton pump inhibitors including Prilosec are some of the most commonly prescribed medications across the country. In 2013 more than $10 billion was spent on PPI medications as more than 15 million people in the United States use these prescription medications.

Common Uses for Proton Pump Inhibitors

PPIs are frequently prescribed for conditions such as acid reflux, stomach ulcers, dyspepsia, acid peptic disease, and GERD. The medications work by prohibiting the secretion of stomach acid production and minimizing hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

According to the Prilosec proton pump inhibitor lawsuit, however, use of the drug comes with serious dangers. Numerous case reports of severe kidney injuries have been filed in this and other Prilosec proton pump inhibitor lawsuits. Some of the most common problems brought forward by patients include kidney and renal failure, chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, and acute interstitial nephritis.

According to this Prilosec proton pump inhibitor lawsuit, the plaintiff in the case and other consumers were never fully warned about the severe risk of kidney injuries until it was too late and they had already developed a problem.

The connection between serious kidney issues and use of proton pump inhibitor medications was initially raised in 1992. If you or someone you know has already been negatively affected by the use of a proton pump inhibitor medication, you need to consult with an experienced attorney immediately to discuss your rights.
